Time, Talent, and Treasure

I seriously doubt there are very many people in the United States that have not heard something, be it a sermon, a telethon, or some nonprofit event, about how we should all give of our time, our talents and gifts, and our treasures or about the evils of withholding them. In fact I will even admit that it is this kind of sermon that convinced me on my first year of unemployment that I needed to go out and volunteer. And that led to the vision of Dirt ‘N’ Nails while working in a community garden. Since that day...

Spring Rebuild 2015

There is a lot to talk about this Spring, but I wanted to start with something simple:  The reconstruction of the greenhouse you all funded in 2014 that got blown apart in the first major Winter wind storm. We have many hopes for 2015, including funding the indoor or outdoor gardens for up to 10 families via Flower Power Fundraising Along with that, we are accepting donations of new and used pots and planters, potting soil, and the like to help with this effort.  I know many of you reading this might have considered cleaning out the garage or shed in preparation for Spring, so this is a great time to take a look and then give us a call or drop us an email for pick-up.  You can reach me directly at 303-263-1171 or via mpescador@dirtnnails.org Finally, you may have noticed at the end of the video we lost one of the panels in that windstorm and need a replacement for the second kit if nothing else.  Please let us know if you know where we can get it from or if you can donate it. There is so much more to say, but this will have to do to start off 2015 until I have time to say more. God bless us all in our good works in 2015. Like this:Like...

WANTED: Board Members and a Grant Writer

Since incorporation in 2011, we have been running primarily on volunteer power and praying for others to be led to help with the year-to-year operations of DNN. As we move forward with grant writing, we find we have a need to fill in the board with members willing to not only contribute their time and treasure, but also their talent (Romans 12:5-8). Our current board is made up of three people, the bare minimum for incorporating, but we need more accountability and more talents than we currently have. We have a marketer and counselor, an attorney, and a networker....

Edible Landscapes

Edible Landscapes This is my first attempt at posting my blog and at posting a video to it. Thank you for your patience. Meanwhile, ask yourself this: What would happen if we had all of the nonprofits, all of the churches, that had anything to do with feeding the hungry changing their landscaping from having bushes and trees that only gave shade to bushes and trees that also gave fruit and nuts. Or how about gardening? What if they all had edible landscapes? Like this:Like...

Doubting Thomas

Back in early 2013, after yet another year of collecting only $1000 for DNN, I felt disheartened and ready to give up.  Household bills were piling up, our adoptive son needed more and more attention, and I was standing in a supermarket waiting on a prescription and wondering what all of this, all of my life, was about. That was the point at which the road towards At His Feet Cleaning Service started.  And for the time I worked it, I had a great time.  A demonstration downtown brought forth an opportunity to show a condominium guard that the...
